Bonding – everything nobody will tell you.

Bonding – wszystko to, czego nikt Ci nie powie.

There is a lot of conflicting information about bonding. Patients often ask questions that get many contradictory answers. In this article you will find out everything you wanted to ask.

The first widespread myth is that bonding is a reversible procedure. It is true that the procedure involves adding material to the tooth, which is why many people believe it can be removed at any time to return to the original state – unfortunately, this is not true.

This applies especially when bonding is done on “crooked” teeth – in such cases the teeth very often have to be filed down to a greater or lesser extent for the best aesthetic result. In addition, every tooth has to be etched (prepared for bonding the composite with an acid that changes the structure of the enamel, which means the procedure is not reversible).

Many people also ask about the durability of bonding. It depends on many factors. The most important is proper patient assessment and great care to ensure stability in the temporomandibular joints and no muscle problems, which could later cause the work to crack and lead to a range of complaints. Another factor affecting the durability of the work and the aesthetic result is the patient’s oral hygiene and diet. If the patient eats staining foods, the composite will discolour and the teeth will need polishing.

Bonding: facts and myths

Does every bonding treatment give equally excellent aesthetic and functional results? The answer is no. It all depends on the skill of the dentist performing the procedure and
on proper planning of the work. In our practice we use a combined method – we rebuild the back teeth using the flow injection technique, which allows us to restore ideal bite conditions and ideal physiological heights of the cusps that meet when you bite. The front teeth are the dentist’s artistic handiwork.
Thanks to the technique of layering the composite, the finished teeth are beautiful and natural, with anatomical structures and translucencies.

We can even do it in snow white. The obvious alternative to bonding is veneers – beautiful works of art, also handmade by one of the best dental laboratories in Poland.

Of course, ceramic teeth are by far the most aesthetic solution, but also more expensive. We very often combine both techniques, creating beautiful ceramic teeth in the upper arch and bonding in the lower arch. The result is always spectacular and makes patients’ dreams come true – and, of course, it is done in line with the latest knowledge, healthy and, most importantly, functional.
